thursday and friday, we did a lot AND not so much, all at the same time.
THURSDAY, we went to rheea's office so we could wait for one of her new students to come and pay dues.
we had lunch at harima, a japanese restaurant in indira nagar. the restaurant was very tidy with clean lines and an extremely japanese aesthetic. i appreciated that walking in, it smelled like a japanese restaurant, as odd as that sounds. also, when we first got there, the restaurant was full of japanese businessmen.... i have to admit, i felt like i was home for just a minute. the food was decent [although the sashimi was a far cry from what you can easily expect in even an upper mediocre japanese restaurant back home]- some leeway must be given for the adjustments made to suit indian tastes- the set lunch menu is really quite affordable and the atmosphere is relaxing. there was one thirtysomething couple that looked like they were there on a first date of sorts. it was rather adorable.
as we were driving home after lunch, i caught shots of quite a few different things that got me thinking for some reason or another, enjoy:
rhee and i spent the rest of the night doing work and cleaning out one side of her closet while arun worked.
FRIDAY, we worked out halfheartedly with arun and then trekked to the supermarket here, hypercity, to get some supplies for the bachelorette party on saturday.
afterwards, we all had lunch with pd and rheea's pishi, her aunt at this super delicious coastal indian restaurant, kanua. the food centered mostly around seafood and coconut milk. it was definitely one of my faves so far.
after lunch, the rains came, but they weren't torrential. rheea and i got into an auto and made our way to jimi's this beer cafe in indira nagar. the auto driver was probably one of my favorite so far. he went out of his ways to avoid potholes and puddles in his tiny little rickshaw. it was cute.
i feel like every city is it's truest self in the rain. does that seem crazy to you? i don't know. i love rain and storms and etc though. that's just kind of how i function. so for me, when it rains, everything about a place is at its most truest. nothing can be pretended in the rain. everything merely is what it is.
anyhow, after our trek across town, we ended up at jimi's to meet with rheea's class. she teaches english to french college students studying abroad here in india. the five of them wanted to have their last class at a bar, celebratory-style.
they were rather adorable... these early twentysomethings from france with enough excitment and fervor for life to keep conversation going for hours. it was pretty nuts to think these students came to india ten months ago and, most of them, knew no english AT ALL. now they are chatty and confident and really quite precious.
afterwards, we went home and ended up at rohit and molly's flat with pd, carlos and arun watching american psycho on rohit's huge projector. umm, yeaaaa.... fairly disturbing across the board for all. i wouldn't say it's not worth watching because, well, it kind of is but it's tough. really tough. AND, in a lot of ways i feel like bret easton ellis [the author of the book] plays in the same ballpark as denis johnson [the author of jesus' son] and i have my reservations about both. but yea, i don't know... if you can deal with disturbing, check it out. we were all sufficiently weirded out.

I also notice that particular street art every time I am on that part of outer ring road. It covers the non windowed walls of the office building which houses used car dealership. Their lot is right next to it. The other two walls are completely glass.
