day four: nick and chrissy depart

like after any wonderful party, sunday involved some bodily lethargy and household cleanup. once motivation was possible, we tarried off to brunch.

on the drive over, there was a man dressed up as Hanuman, the monkey god. he was walking around asking shopkeepers and passersby for money.

brunch is a fairly new phenomenon in bangalore. we went to this place called the island. the place is beautiful- waterfalls all over the restaurant, open air seating, the young and financially successful crowd of bangalore. brunch in bangalore is one of those all-you-can-eat buffet affairs. it's interesting though because there is no theme to the fare exactly. for example, the starters are pita chips with hummus, pizza, a vegetable hash, fried paneer, beerbattered fish, spicy chicken....  kind of random. and then the entrees are the same way. kind of in that vegas buffet kind of way, ya know? i felt underdressed and underposh to be honest but we bucked up post-party and ate well.

the restaurant

arun and his artsy photos, lol.

"i'm cranky. "me too." "i need to eat." "me too."

the restaurant staff were dressed like sailor moon knockoffs. i was amused, exponentially.

afterwards was some last minute shopping and then heading back to the house so chrissy could catch her cab. our sweet constant optimist departed for goa, gifting rheea and i with fans from malaysia and hugs for all.

afterwards, the four of us flopped about the living room, watching law and order: svu on netflix before dinner at jalsa, this ornate north indian/mughlai restaurant near rheea and arun's house on outer ring road. for the first time since being here, i was able to actually find an indian dish that wasn't too too spicy and had no dairy that i ADORED: alou gobi matar. it's a potato, cauliflower and pea curry which was delicious with whole wheat paratha. listen, i'm a foodie at heart and i want so deeply to love indian food but oftentimes my inability to handle spicy food and absolute inability to digest dairy makes it rather difficult. meaning, when i find something, this is NEWS, people. NEWS. GREAT NEWS, in fact.

my curious nature meant right when we sat down i investigated how they made the tables glow. florescent bulbs, fyi.

seriously look at the setting at this place, ridic.

after dinner, we grabbed nick's things, sped off to the airport and, after some tea and coffee, said our goodbyes to mr. johnson as he embarked on his long journey back to san francisco. i was a brat and totally sprawled out in the backseat of the car and passed out on the way home. the three of us went straight to bed after we returned home.

  1. Thank you. I was trying to find a decent brunch buffet place. Your review helps as Burrp (website that hosts restaurant reviews) did not mention it for Island.

And I thought lactose intolerance does not hold for cottage cheese and curd. Now I know better. Live and learn :-)
